La Casa del Sol is on Calle Cherna, between Caracol and Bagre, in the western part of Holbox that stretches from the village toward Punta Cocos. It's a white three-story building with palm-thatched roofs, wooden stairs and a colorful mural at the entrance. The beach is one block away, the island's sunset and bioluminescence spot is about an eleven-minute walk, and the main square is 1.8 km away: roughly 20–25 minutes on foot or five by bike.
People who pick it are after exactly that: peace and quiet. Guests give cleanliness and property condition a 9.8 on Expedia, and nearly every review uses the same words: quiet, spacious, great bed, a rooftop with hammocks for sunset. The flip side comes up just as often: the village is a long walk back and forth, and in the rainy season the sandy streets flood.

From June to September the world's largest fish comes to feed off the island. Tours leave early by boat and you snorkel alongside them, in small groups with certified guides.

Toward Punta Mosquito, to the east, you can walk the sandbar at low tide and, depending on the season, spot flamingos, pelicans and herons. Stay out of marked areas: this is a protected reserve (Yum Balam).
